The Director performs administrative and managerial work with emphasis on planning, developing, and directing a comprehensive and effective Corporate Compliance  program for the organization, to include but not limited to: development of policies & procedures; identification and prevention of illegal, unethical or improper conduct; independent investigation and follow-up; employee education & training; contractual review; legal consultation; development and implementation of audit processes for proper coding compliance; and trending, evaluation and improvement activities. Provides leadership across the organization to maintain accreditation standards for the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Heath Care to include development of a continuous readiness process and maintaining expertise in current AAAHC accreditation standards. Works collaboratively with MAHEC leadership, staff, students and external vendors, clients, patients and legal counsel.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides institutional oversight of MAHEC's Corporate Compliance Program, including budget development and management
  • Develops, initiates, maintains, and revises policies and procedures for the general operation of the compliance program and its related activities to prevent illegal, unethical, or improper conduct
  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the compliance program
  • Serves as Chief Compliance Officer and HIPAA Privacy Officer
  • Assists leaders throughout the organization in reviewing contracts for compliance with policy and procedures.
  • Works with the Risk Management Office to ensure insurance contracts are negotiated for officers and the organization.
  • Develop Continuous Survey Readiness Program the encompasses all MAHEC clinical locations
  • Readiness process should include active audits and effective onsite rounding to provide timely feedback across all departments/divisions with follow up action plans
  • Provide organization-wide education regarding AAAHC standards and upcoming changes

 Required Qualifications:

Any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field; AND
  • Seven (7) years' experience serving as a healthcare compliance professional, with responsibility for developing and managing compliance programs for:
  1. medical insurance carriers, with an emphasis on reclamation services, auditing, third-party liability, FWA (Fraud Waste & Abuse), and Medicaid laws; and
  2. CMS under the Medicare and Medicaid program; a state agency under its Medicaid program; or an auditing and recovery vendor for federal or state agencies, or [preferably] commercial carriers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified in health care compliance and health care privacy.
  • Clinically licensed professional, such as an RN, desired.
  • Juris Doctorate or other professional trained in contract management or policy interpretation highly desired.
